Square-root mechanical extraction

Link-gear mechanism for extracting square roots (Artobolevsky bd II, p. 319)

For a, b, fixed (defining the mechanism), variable z , then :

y = (a/(2b^2))sqrt(z).

1) CTRL+2 ... and pick-move point A to modify z.
2) CTRL+1 ... and move B to modify b, or/and modify a (by one of its end-points).
3) Given a and b (fixed), find for which values of z the mechanism works.
When b = a/sqrt(2), then ... y = sqrt(z)
