Automatic Staircase. Shown the principle which uses the most elementary curve of constant width. (ABC below)

Curve of constant width. Segment BD equals the side of the equilateral ABC. The arcs AB, BC, CA are from circles with centers C, A, and B, respectively. For every direction the curve admits two parallel tangents at distance equal to the side of the triangle. Tangent here means a line cutting the curve at exactly one point. Curves with the last property are called "curves of constant width".
